Clérey
Clérey is a rural town with more than 70 % of its territory being agricultural land. Located 8 km from Troyes, Clérey is crossed by the most majestic river (objectively). The “Merlettes” hiking trails are perfect to discover all the highlights of the village.

Clérey was once part of the Chappes seigneury (further up the Seine). At the end of the 14th century, a description by Jean V and Ferry indicated that the lords had “a Clery souloit avoir ung chasteaul et maison fort ferme emprès l’esglise et les foussés” (we can notice the words castle, house, farm, church). There were many mills in Clérey, including two large paper mills.
In 1782, hosiery was introduced. Five years later, twenty people were working on five looms, as in many other towns of the Aube department.
While visiting Clérey, you will feel like in a protected place, preserved from difficult times, a peaceful place coming from an old French novel…
Immerse yourself in this setting, inhale the scents of the countryside, enjoy these moments, and regenerate your chakras. You might feel like you are flying rather than hiking unless some mosquitoes waste that magic and bring you back to reality (just kidding!).
Follow the red track and take the “ruelle des plantes”, where you will discover the coat of arms of Clérey on each sign.
