Javernant
Discover the town of Javernant, located 20km south-west of Troyes, at the gates of the Pays d’Othe.
Welcome to Javernant !
The town of Javernant has just over 150 inhabitants. It is located 20 km southwest of Troyes, at the entrance to the Pays d’Othe, and it has, on its territory, hilly forests and plains where fields stretch towards the horizons. This rural setting is animated by the joyful lifestyle of the inhabitants of Javernant. The highest point of the Pays d’Othe is on its outskirts (301 m compared to 268 m for the town of Montgueux).
There are many hidden treasures in the village, all the details of which are described in the fascinating book of Mr Daniel Kaufmann called “Javernant, village du Pays d’Othe – des origines à nos jours” (“Javernant, a town in the Pays d’Othe – from the origins to nowadays”). In addition to its church with a remarkable porch, statuary and stained glass windows, Javernant offers almost 13 centuries of history.
In this game, the few riddles you will have to answer are an introduction, an invitation to wander through this peaceful and very surprising village.
From now on, enjoy this natural environment to breath, relax… Above all, take a deep breath of fresh air before you start the game!
The town hall was originally created to accommodate the school, housing for the teacher and the hall for the town hall.
The estimated cost of its construction at the time was 17,579.98 francs. The school closed its doors definitively in 1962, the pupils having to be distributed among the schools in the villages of Villery, Bouilly or Jeugny.
From now on, the accommodation is used for the town hall secretariat and the classroom has become a multipurpose room

Monument aux morts (Memorials)
Built in 1925, you will discover that the town paid a very heavy price during the Great War since 9 men aged 20 to 45 out of a population of 167 inhabitants (1911 census) died for their country.
Note, if the monument has no name for the 39-45 war, it is not an oversight, no inhabitant having been a victim of this war. However, on June 18, 1940, a young Ivorian Kanou Za, aged 25, was killed by a German soldier at 7 route de Villery. He had come out of his hiding place believing that they were French soldiers (he now rests in the military cemetery of the Ferme de Suippe in the Marne).
Before leaving the premises to go to the church, we advise you to observe very carefully the wayside cross behind this monument.
