Stroll through its peaceful streets, admire its diversified landscapes and promising horizons, enjoy the tranquillity, inhale the intoxicating scents of its lush greenery… Although today, the atmosphere may seem peaceful, over the centuries, these lands have been the scene of battles and extraordinary, tragic but astonishing events that have probably even changed the course of history.

Montgueux - nature

Here, in 1878, 2 foreign apprentices spent 2 years learning about vine growing at the famous Clos Sainte Sophie from Charles Baltet (a renowned nurseryman from Troyes).

On their return to their homeland, they grew the Chardonnay plants they brought back, which today form the basis of their country’s main vineyard.
