Welcome to Mesnil-Saint-Père!

The origin of Mesnil-Saint-Père comes from both “Mansionile”, meaning a small house, and “Saint-Père”, a deformation of “Saint-Pierre”.

In the 11th century, the village of Mesnil-St-Père was called “Magnum Magsnillum”, or Great Mesnil, as opposed to Little-Mesnil. The village was renowned for its tile factories, but its economy has been profoundly modified since the construction of the dam-reservoir.

The work of clay, symbolised by the last three tile factories, sunk under the water, has been replaced by a huge artificial lake. This idea came about following the major floods of the Seine river in the winters of the years 1910 and 1924, with the aim of controlling the river.

Now, get your trainers and go exploring the streets and hidden treasures of this village!
