Before you leave, do you know the supposed origin of the name of the town, “Sommeval”?

• According to Gabriel Groley, this name would be formed from “somme”, synonymous with “spring” in the region of Champagne, and of “val”, a diminutive of valley. Therefore, it would mean “spring of the valley” referring to the intermittent springs located in the village.
• Another possible origin of this name would be “summa valis”, which means “valley of the summit”, in reference to the topography of the village.
