Villechétif
The town of Villechétif is located 6 km east of Troyes, between Saint-Parres-aux-Tertres and Creney, in a green and rural environment.
Bienvenue à Villechétif !
With its many walking paths, Villechétif is an ideal place to stop and recharge your batteries in a natural setting. One of the last alkaline peat marshes in the Aube department is located within Villechétif territory (towards Bouranton). This is a remarkable site for its flora, with 236 listed plant species, but also for its fauna, including many species of amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. This marsh is classified as a Natura 2000 site and is used as a “natural purification station” for its water quality.

Step 02 / 11
In feudal times, a dovecote was used to house and breed pigeons for two purposes: to provide food for the owner and to breed the birds as homing pigeons.
In the Middle Ages, the dovecote provided the estate with a substantial supply of food and fertiliser, which was a true source of wealth for the lord and his subjects. Pigeon droppings (colombine) were used as manure until the middle of the 20th century.
For your information, at the end of the 19th century in Paris, about 2,000,000 pigeons were eaten every year.
Use your eagle eye to find the meaning of the acronym on the front of the nearest association building.
Step 04 / 11
The war heroes of Villechétif who died for their country are all represented on the left of the war memorial (inaugurated in 1927).
From the photos, find the hero we would like to honour in the next question.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin is dated from 1865. It is an exceptional rest stop with its rehabilitated surroundings.
Its style is neo-Gothic, and its disproportionate height marks the resurgence of the Gothic art, very appreciated in the 16th century. It was characterised by this slender architecture.
Look for the altitude marker to determine the altitude of this place, as on this photo (which is an example of another commune of Troyes La Champagne J).
The “Nivellement Général de la France” (NGF) is a network of height markers spread throughout France.
